Dark, Stained Grout
A homeowner in Ramona, California contacted us because the appearance of their tile and grout kitchen countertops had diminished with use over time. The wide grout lines had become dark and stained, and the discoloration was made even more conspicuous because parts of the backsplash still looked fresh and new. Grout is porous, which means it absorbs food and drink spills, oils, and other substances. For a high-use area, such as this kitchen countertop, we needed to take preventative measures to inhibit contaminants from getting back into those grout lines.
Deep Cleaning and Color Sealing
First, we masked and protected the surfaces surrounding our work area. Then, we power scrubbed and steam cleaned the tile and grout to remove the deeply embedded contaminants.
Although the countertop had been sanitized, the appearance of the grout lines was still not completely consistent with the newer looking backsplash. We resolved this problem by applying a grout colorant.
The homeowner was thrilled with the fresh, new look and happy to hear about the numerous additional benefits our high quality grout color sealer provides:
- repels oil and water-based liquids
- prevents food and beverage stains
- inhibits the growth of bacteria and mildew
- reduces or eliminates odors
- easier to maintain
